RoHS Directive (The Restriction of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (2002/95/EC)) is the regulation prohibiting the use of certain toxic and harmful substances in electronic and electrical products.

The RoHS Directive covers a wide range, almost all electronic, electrical, medical, communication, toy, security information products, etc. It includes not only finished products but also components, raw materials, and packaging used in manufacturing the finished products, affecting the entire production chain. The RoHS Directive specifies the maximum limits for six hazardous substances, where lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), hexavalent chromium (Cr6+), polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) have a maximum allowable content of 0.1% (1000 ppm), and cadmium (Cd) is 0.01% (100 ppm). This limit is the legal basis for determining whether a product complies with the RoHS Directive.
